Cutting rear fenders.

OK, so I've got an idea. I've seen this specific method of cutting the rears on a Cherokee before, but I didn't ask whether or not the owner had unibody stiffeners or a cage.

The method is to rivet above the spot welds (maybe a half inch up) and cut away at everything below. Now I don't know if you simply cut everything off, or if it is that usual cut and fold only cut higher than the spot welds since the rivets will be in place. Anyone ever heard of this? Comments or ideas?

Ill have to dig for my pictures... but theres a trick to it,
Because its a unibody if you cut it high youll seperate the panels, best to trim the bottom 1/2" then cut slices and roll the metal into the wheel well & then up ward.
this keeps the 2 panels together and looks clean too

X2. After looking at Sc00by's, that's what I did too. Cut just below the pinch welds, then rolled it under with a hammer. Stuff 35's with no problems at all, panels stay together, clean looking and smooth on the underside.

Yeah, rethinking it I don't think rivets will be strong enough to keep the two panels together when you consider all the twisting of the unibody that's going on while rock crawling.

Now another question. Do I cut between the spot welds up to the nearest lip in the panel and then roll those tabs underneath or is there a different place I should be cutting?
