Playing with Engines
#1
This past Sunday I got my Dad and my Uncle to come help be take apart our Red Jeep.

I had already pre-labels most of the hoses and electrical connections, so we just had to remove some of the major components from the engine. First came out the radiator, then the fan. Off with the Alt., A/C, and power steering pump.

Removed the wiring harness, and the tranny-engine bolt. Unfortunatly we found two bolts at the top of the tranny that we couldn't get undone. :((
Monday I found out that they were Torx bolts so I ran to autozone to pickup the correct socket. Many hours later I finally got both bolts out and was able to get the engine to start moving.

:(( That's as far as I could get it though. I guess I'm going to try again tomorrow, anyone have any suggestions on what would help them come apart easier?

What's getting hung up now?

I didn't see any beer. From what I observed with my uncles growing up, beer evidently makes these type of projects work out better.
#4
sometimes if you swear at it, it comes out easier

did you try that?

Nope haven't tried beer yet, I've definitely swore at it though.

If you need help with either, please let me know. Dozzer may be in for this on too, but you'd have to check with him. :)=)

Kick it?

Get a beer, swear at it, and kick it?

Ha, I've been sliding him a few pearls of wisdom thru email on this one over the last few days. Hope it's been helpful.

In my experience which has been great and numberous on the subject, beer typically makes the project go down hill after about 6 hours. However the swearing definitely makes everything better.

Finally an update, got out early before the sun got hot.

I am always willing to give advice and a helping hand. All ya gotta do is ask. BTW..swearing=special car words. That is what I call it.

Since I have the engine out I'm planning on replacing the Clutch. Anyone know why a 4cyl clutch costs $40 but a 6cyl clutch costs $140? Doesn't seem like there should be that much of a difference...

Update?
#13
Planning on putting the engine back in this Sat. I'll have an update after that.

My Dad came over and we started working at 6:30 this morning.
After lots of maneuvering, shaking, going up, and going down it's almost there :eyeroll:
The engine in nearly on it's mounts right now and the tranny has about 1.5" to go before it's nicely mated with the engine. I'll be working on it again on Monday and see if I can't get them the rest of the way.

Sooo happy!
#16
sooo I'm obviously out of the loop lol why'd you pull it??
#17
the engine blew a piston ring, so I'm swaping in a newer one. It's a heck of a project though.....
#18
ouch.. yeah I've pulled engines before, it is NOT fun at all. You get it all in yet? or still workin on it?
#19
Sadly I spent all morning working on it and made very little progress.

Bummer :/ you said your putting in a "newer" one? same kind just a different engine?
