Ragnar Relay MIA
#1
Just wanted to say sorry I've been neglecting the board lately. As most of you know I have less than two weeks before I run in the Ragnar Relay. I have been training like crazy and haven't had much time or energy to do much else. I've been running around 40 miles a week with a long run of 12 to 13 miles 8| On race day 2/27 to 2/28 I will be running three legs (11.8 miles, 10.8 miles, and 9.7 miles) in less than a 24 hour period.

So if you are feeling bored Friday (2/27) around 3:00p.m., Satuday (2/28) around1:00a.m., or Saturday (2/28) around 11:00a.m. you could always come hang out with Dana somewhere between Prescott and Mesa and make fun of me as I run by :)=)

Awesome. I'll be on the lookout for you.

I just found out that I'm going to be stationed at Exchange 16. Wickenburg Community Center with my shift starting at 9pm Friday evening and ending in the wee hours of the morning.

That's where I start my second leg of the race probably around 1:00a.m. I am running leg 17 and 18 which starts at exchange 16. Look for a LandRover LR3 with the Rhino Crash Running door magnets that Mike designed they look like this

That is absolutely the coolest logo I've ever seen :cool)

What other legs are you running? I was trying to see where you run on the website map

I got bumped to Exchange 17. I'll be the guy with the ham radio.

If you see any of the Ham Radio guys out there Friday afternoon, yell "BACON!!!" at them. Mmm, bacon.

Go Team Rhino. I'm heading out in the next 30 minutes to sit at Exchange 17 all night. They just updated me with the ETA of the first runner there at 9pm. I need to be on station by 8pm.

Way to go Jon Jon!!!
Glad you got some pics Dana.

Way cool! It was great to see you run!

I tried to take pictures, but they turned out bad. Night photography is hard.

This is the best I got of Exchange 17. You can see the gate on the side of the 60 and my Jeep where I sat most of the night trying to keep warm.

Awesome, Great job!!

first things first, I need to give a huge shout out/thanks to Mike Bob and Dana for coming out to the race and cheering me on. I was expecting Dana to come watch me run my final leg of the race but was completely suprised when I ran past Mike and Bob on my 1:00 a.m. 2nd leg. :O

Being in the zone and running at night along the 60 out of Wickenburgh I normally might not have noticed who was cheering along the way, but I spotted Mike and Bob from over a quarter of a mile a way. No Bob was not shirtless on top of the xterra 8| (although that may have made me run faster). I saw some colorful lights whipping through the air off the highway up ahead. I couldn't figure out what it was until I was about to pass the spot they were coming from. It was then that I saw it was Bob and Mike in the highgerground sweatshirts waiving glow sticks and yelling "loud words of encouragement"

They drove ahead of me several more times to cheer me on as I passed. Seriously a huge boost...everytime I past them cheering my pace jumped from about a 7:10 to a 6:30 mile pace. I know that was a long way to drive and alot of waiting in the cold just to cheer as I passed so thank you, it was very cool :cool)

A little extra thanks to Mike for designing our team logo...not only did all the guys on the team think it was the coolest logo in the world but I also had several other teams say that they really like our logo.

So here are the results if you are interested:

our team finished 3rd in our category (all male 6 man team all over 30)
we finished 6th out of all the ultra teams
and 63 out of 223 teams running. It took us just over 28 hours to complete.

Personally I averaged about a 7:10 pace for my first leg (11.3 miles), a 7:00 pace for my second leg (10.8 miles), and about a 7:30 pace for my last leg (9.8 miles). Not bad in less than 24hours and just over 2 hours of sleep total between legs (no sleep between legs 1 and 2)

Pretty happy with the results especially given only 2 months of training. Too soon and too sore to say whether I would do it again

Awesome job Jonathan. I saw some incredible athletes out there this weekend.

We also had a blast at Camp Ragnar. In case you haven't heard about it, we had to make an Emergency Call to Net Control the next morning.
