Front Drive Shaft / Drive Line Kit Quandary
#1
Looking for some advice... I need to replace the front drive shaft on my '07 JK. Anyone out there done one? Good, better, best brand? Any ideas on how hard these are to install if I try and tackle this myself?

I too have heard good things on Tom Woods too in the last 2yrs only heard of one failing with in the azvjc

My XJ is running an 94ZJ 5.4L front drive line, for my rear drive line (due to the SYE)
it is way smaller but it fits & was about $200 cheaper than a TW...
So far its done good on the road & it got us to CDC & back, not sure how it will do offroad.

There quite easy to change out too 5/16 is your friend!
1 of my 2 boys (David) thats his designated assigement if I need to have a DL removed or installed, yes he's broken a few of those bolts (easy to over torque them so be careful!) but Ive done my best to build up his confidence and he's quite comfortable doing them now :)g)

If I'm remembering right, you'll have to change the yokes out up front also because of the rzeppa joints that the stock shafts use.

If it were me I'd stay local for the shaft. Phoenix Rack & Axle makes some very quality shafts and have been building JK shafts since the day the first one was lifted in Phoenix. :D

Yah tom woods is pretty good, Im running a rear one from them

But theres a few shops local that can custom make one for you too. Might want to use someplace close by so they can make sure its the right length

Teraflex makes one... I wonder if they are any good? Would there be an advantage to sticking with the lift manufacturer? Have I mentioned this is an expensive hobby? 8|

Honestly the only thing that I trust of Tera flex is the 4:1 that I have in my TJ.

Yes this is an expensive hobby. What are you currently looking around for? The best deal? Best Product?

I have to agree... I would not do Teraflex for a lift on the next Jeep. Had some problems so far... not huge one's but would go a different way next time.

I know the "best deal" will be junk, but on the flip side I don't think I can afford the "best product"... I guess I am looking for a happy medium (if there is one). You guys do this more than me and know by now what works and what doesn't which is why I rely on opinions. If the pricing is not huge from good to best... I usually opt to "do it right the first time" anyhow.

Id stay local if I was in the market again. I had some small problems ordering online and ended up with the wrong shaft (my fault)

Head into the shop and see what price they quote you. If you found the same thing online at tom woods or someplace else let them know. Id bet they would come down to that price for a customer

Ok, no fun of the name, but Dick's Driveshaft has rebuilt one for me and built one for me and I have had no issue with either of them. They are on like 36th street and McDowell. Prices have been good, I have no idea since I have a TJ if they have done any for a JK.
