Some kind of war was at hand, soldiers all around with auto riffles and bio suits. People were put on a train. Train crashed maybe as the result of some nuclear type blast. Seemingly only I and another guy survived. We took a couple soldiers' gear just in case. It was smoky and hard to see. I tried to raise someone on the soldier's radio but no one spoke back. It sounded like someone keyed in without speaking a couple times though.
Exited the blast area and removed suits. Walking by a buidling I swore I saw a girl reflected behind me in a window but there was no one there. I don't know who my partner was but he never spoke. As we went, I thought I kept seeing people but still no one else was there with us. It was clear from his actions, my partner was seeing things too. Eventually we both started seeing more and more people on the streets but if you looked right at them, they vanished. You had to look peripherally at them and even then all of their features couldn't be made out. If you tried they vanished. Sometimes one feature would be clear but others would be blurred. Also some of them became familiar- people I had seen before or even knew. The ones I was sure I had met before began speaking to me but only on odd words I swore I had heard before. It became slowly clear that we were both seeing different people, each seeing his own populas. They could be spoken back to but either did not respond to the question or spoke only in what seemed prerecorded voices that sometimes didn't match the subject matter asked at all. This went on throughout the dream frustratingly for a while. It took me waking while shouting at them to realize I could only see people I had seen before, features I had memorized, hear words that were spoken in conversations in the past, that everyone seen was just recognizable ghosts. We were completely alone.
