Official HG September Trip: Sedona Camping, Soldiers Pass, and Greasy Spoon
#1
Wow, what a great trip! Our crew was only able to make the Friday night camping and Soldiers Pass on Saturday morning, but we had a GREAT time.

I know Scooby and Skatch have the killer pics, but I'm going to post up a couple of our pics to get the thread started and write more about the trip in a bit...

Randy, Chris, and Dana @ 7 Appache Pools

The actual 7 Appache Pools

The kids had a great time.

Sc00by and I BOTH had rubbing and Lower Control Arm issues... we will research as to why.

MMMMMM i wonder why maybe cause you are running 35s and our xjs are only ment to runn like 33s. I rub mine in the long arm kiy like crazy. If you want it to tatally stop you can adjust the stop bolts on the knuckles but it will hurt your turning radius. Other than that looks like a freaking great trip. Just gets me more motivated for moab.

LOL yeah... that might be it. :)=) We knew that the rubbing was from upgrading to 35's, but BOTH of us had LCA's come loose on the same trip. Didn't know if it was related, just an XJ thing, or if the constant rubbing was making them loose...

It was a freakin' awesome trip. Camping was cold, but incredible. The company was great. I got to spend time with my family, wheelin', campin', eating s'mores for breakfast, AND didn't completely overheat or ruin a radiator on this run!!!! Success in my book.

Wish you and your crew could've been there. It really was a great time.

Today: unpacking and tightening up everything that came loose! I desperately need new shocks, and the forrest road beat the crap out my XJ. It was much rougher than running a rock garden, when you do it at higher speed. There were pockets of mud that we were able to hit, however, so my Jeep looks properly used! Rock on!!! DW is coming back, I know I lost at least one bolt and had a ton of stuff come loose... oh well, nothing a trip to ACE hardware and some elbow grease won't fix. Joys of owning a Jeep and actually driving it, right! LOL

unfortunatly I only got a few shots :eyeroll: being solo on this run.
So here some of what I got

Megan and I had a good time too. Alan missed out on me breaking on the easiest trail in Sedona ;) Managed to rub a hole in my AC line.

This photo is begging for a caption contest / photoshop

I didnt pull out the camera much on this trip, just got a few

How did you rub your air line???

Looks like you all had a great time. I missed you guys.

Great pics all. Best part about Sedona/Moab: colors abound!
Team Yellow hung out with me today as we just s'plored around the forest road.
Total we saw 22 deer (4 rather large ones), 7 elk, and 1 turkey.
We found Hidden Cabin and Secret Cabin and a few overlooks.
I also found 1 "road" that shouldn't be listed on my GPS and we lost 30min backtracking.

My KN filter has a metal shield to help keep the engine heat away from the intake. That shield sits just above the AC line, with all the washboard roads I was on this weekend the metal shield vibrated on the line causing it to rub a hole in it.

I'll put some JB weld on it to keep the line free of moisture and then try to replace it this winter when I have extra cash.

Nice Randy. I always like those winding road shots.
Chris, stop editing your photos with that software. But that Alan shot is great :cool)

Yea she did pretty good.
We had a top malfunction once we got back near phoenix. Dang thing wouldn't stay on so we had to pull over and take it off and drive the rest of the way in the hot sun.

Well at least that isn't catastrophic failure. I'm glad you got to get out with it again.
#16
skatchkins, those pictures are awesome, as usual

I was all excited this morning hoping you uploaded new pics from Sedona, but now I think ill go back to bed ;)
#18
Fine. Wake up. Here's a few I processed at work.
It just looked like everything else had been covered well.

Thought this one was fun. Good thing that water thing is up top or we'd lose you out there.

what do you do to get your colors to standout so much? Is that done in photshop or is it the camera? How do I get mine to look like that?

Well, I had a Circlular Polarizer on for that first shoot at Soldier's Pass. That helped bump the blue (also shoot away from the sun) and lessen the brightness reflecting off the rocks. In Photoshop it's really different with each one, depending on what colors are in the shot. Sometimes using the Highlight tool works wonders but can mess up the sky, halo, kill your whites, or overcook Sedona reds so it's hard to use on the entire photo. Haze can be cleared up off objects that are further away with it or by using the burn tool (which can really bring out a stormy background). You just have to be patient and willing to try different things, then look back at your originals and make sure you didn't stray too far with your Saturation.
