Table Mesa Night Run 08/22/08
#1
So I lost my Table Mesa virginity Saturday night. I was not disappointed but I did have to put in a three hour courtship...the guys that invited us were doing some last minute repairs on one of their rigs and big surprise, it took longer than they anticipated. We were supposed to meet at the staging area at 7:00, but the others actually arrived closer to 10:00. Bob came out to ride along but decided to call it a night after waiting until 9:00. Thanks for keeping us company for a couple of hours Bob sorry you had to go home without getting any (trail riding).

We ran Terminator and Predator and watched the big boys play on the first water fall of Annihilator (a crazy trail). We had a great time, did some really challenging stuff, and had no breakage; although, we did have a good scare on the first obstacle of Terminator. We were crawling up about a three foot step when we heard a very loud pop from the underside front end (like someone hit my axle with a sledge hammer). It sounded like we broke something major, but after inspecting the underside all appeared normal. I put the jeep back in two wheel drive and backed off the obstacle. Once on level ground again, I was able to put it back in four low without any scary noises. Everything was in working order. Most likely the linkage got a little bound up and slipped, no damage but a very scary noise.8|

The two rigs we went with were stretched on 40” tires and V-8’s. It was fun to watch them take the hardest lines possible. They had one flop that they drove out of and they blew a hole in one transmission messing around on Annihilator which ended the night. There were only a few spots where we couldn’t follow their lines given our shorter wheel-base, narrower stance, and clearance, but we held our own and only needed spotting a few times…never got completely stuck. We got a few more trail scars; nothing worth posting pictures of yet but the jeep is getting sexier all the time.:cool)

All in all we had a good time minus the whole waiting around thing. I can’t wait to run Table Mesa in the day light. I guess the first time with no lights is ok. I hear Die Hard and Collateral Damage calling.:)=)

Thanks for the invite, sorry I couldn't make it. Sounds like you has a blast. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa Bob, why no DIE HARD?

Jonathan I don't know if you quite want any CD yet either. Body Damage is normal in that trail. Might want to play with Term, Predator, Dirty, Judgement Day, etc... for awhile. Get some more dings and then you won't mind the first time you run CD. :D

That sounds like a plan...probably a good idea to ease into the whole body damage thing. Although, my bigger concern is breaking things. We've accepted the whole body damage thing...just part of the deal, don't wanna let that limit us. A little more time and driving practice on trails like Pred,Term,JD etc. is a good idea. Definitely getting better at having to pick my lines and not relying on a spotter. Just eager to do more challenging stuff. Kinda got the bug ever since the Cracks :)=)

Still have some things to check off the top of the neverending upgrade list as well...SYE is at the top, then things like chromolly shafts for the 44 and a full roll cage. Kinda have to take it easy until Dana is done with school and we have two incomes again. Or should I say, when my sugar mama is making more money than I do and I can stay at home
