marriage ammendment this november
#1
Theres a proposal out there on the November AZ ballot that classifies marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Have you thought of how you are going to vote on it?

If you are voting for it, it basically makes any hope of gay marriage in AZ illegal

If you are voting against it, it opens the door to gay marriage in the state

So how will you vote and why are you voting that way?

I will vote for it because marriage is between one man and one woman.

dwn yup yup

Pretty clear in my bible.
Regardless of your thoughts towards gay people, it's still sexual sin. If God doesn't acknowledge it as marriage, I won't either and they should not have the benefits an actual married couple have.

My only real problem with the benefits thing is that if a non married couple (boy girl) gets them then a gay couple should too.

Im honestly a little torn on this one. From a Christian perspective gay marriage is a sin and should not be allowed.

However what right do I have to impose my morals on someone else through a law?

What if Islam was the major religion here? Would it be okay for them to make it a law to wear a hijab?

Really I see this whole debate as a failure of the American church. The church in general has lost allot of respect from the public. If the church was doing its job in teaching morals and right from wrong then this would have never been brought up.

From a personal liberties standpoint I really can't see a problem with allowing gays to marry. What they do in their home is no business of mine. I don't see how gay marriage infringes on my personal liberty or pursuit of happiness.

I can see how making gay marriage illegal can infringe on others pursuit of happiness.

Do I agree with the lifestyle that gays live? No. However, I don't think its my place or the governments to tell them they are wrong.

I really believe this entire issue is just another example of how our country is morally bankrupt. The church has failed in so many aspects over the last few decades and is now trying to force their morals on people through laws.

I will be voting for it. I'm not religious at all, my opinion is purely my own. If they want to form "Domestic Partnerships" which afford them the benefits of a spouse that's fine with me. But there are somethings that I feel are sacred one of them is that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Hey, where I'm from your sister IS fair game.

I don't think a boy/girl living together or a same sex relationship should have the same benefits as a married couple, regardless of the sexual make up. If I have to put up with being married, I deserve my exclusive benefits! LOL

Chris, (a) we need to talk, and (b) I'm not going to let you troll and pick me up in your Ron Paul, Libertarian, tolerance promoting, coffee house trolling net...

...and yes, majority rules, and if the majority were Islamic and everyone voted on hajibs, then it would be right to enforce it... that's the point of voting and having a majority. If you don't like it, then it's your right and duty to work to change it, not particpate and suffer the consequences/persecution, and/or move. That's why I like state's rights... I can choose which state I live in and it's less cumbersome than changing countries every couple of years.... :)=)

dang, got caught in the obvious troll... grrrrrrr }:)

What part don't you agree with?

The same part Alan does

Alan just responded back saying majority rules. Which is nice sounding but doesn't have much basis.

If the majority of people wanted to kill babies born with birth defects is that okay? If the majority of people wanted everyone over the age of 60 to be euthanized is that right?

Obviously not.

Just because the majority of people agree on something doesn't make it right.

Going back to gay marriage again, how does two people living together infinge on your personal liberties and rights?

Not majority rules dolt.
Morality rules

Pretty sure he said majority

Again though, since when do we look to the government for morals? Going by our last few presidents I guess its okay to lie, cheat on your spouse and embezzle money?

Its a failure of the Church for not staying relevant in peoples lives. The church should teach morality from the Bible, instead we have churches saying one thing (homosexuality is a sin) and doing another (catholic priests)

Its no wonder people are lost and looking for guidance.

Well if you came over more then you wouldn't miss me. :D You gotta come see my new seats. :D

-----------------

Try as it might I don't think the church's teachings can keep someone from becoming Gay. At the most I think it will keep a persons tendencies hidden from view of the public. Yes it's a sin and yes I believe in my own soul that it's wrong, however I don't think the church has ever had a hold on that part of peoples lives. Homosexuality has been around since people have been around. Some can call it a form of discrimination on my part if they want, but I just don't feel they should be allowed to get married in the traditional sense of the word.
