Death. Wobble.
#1
I was experiencing some LIMITED DW prior to adding the bigger springs, but now I'm experiencing SUPER MEGA MONSTER DEATH WOBBLE two, three, four times day! It actually scared the crap out of me today.

It's happening about 20 - 40 MPH when I hit any type of bump or change in the road... starts getting out of plane, and WAMMO! Death Wobble. I stop. It stops... everyone is happy until next time.

I physically checked/tightened everything on the front and and it's all good (from a bolt perspective...).

I know the springs are just amplifying the issue.

Any pointers I can check or do so I don't die or get in a serious wreck this week?

It'll be Monday before I can drop the rig off at AO and beg Joe to "make it stop".

Thanks in frustrated advance.

Check your track bar, then check your track bar again (yes I know from experince)
#3
Yup, trac bar big time. Also stop by Discount or someplace and have your tires balanced again. When you all put the new springs in this weekend did you reset your toe in?
#4
And you checked your rear track bar too??

There is only one vehicle on this website that has the internet mythical "rear death wobble" :)g)

I don't know what's scarier. Riding in it or next to is when it does that 8|

Alan remember at the build day I said thought your tie rod was a little curved looking? That could be it. Also check your toe like Jack said

Talk about a fun ride!

plus if your seering stabilizer is shot like mine it will effect it to. plus did you get it alligned yet the front axle caster might be a proble. thats just from my rig. o one more thng how are you ball joints????? bad ball joint are not good either
#10
Yes a bad stabilizer will give you more of an opportunity for DW. However only because there is another problem. My guess is trac bar busing or joint.
#11
Thank you, everyone (and Geoff, stop talking about my ball joints... that's personal, brother! 8|)

I'm dropping her off at Joe's on Monday (if he's in), but I'll take a look at everything on Saturday. I'm pulling 14 hour days right now and just don't have the energy when I get home to get fully into it, but at least I know the three spots it's going to DW on me to and from work each day!

Pray I don't die before Monday. Seriously... pray I don't die, please. It feels like it with DW. :)=)

Pardo'ne' mua' for highjacking

But I also need help in this area. I didnt really worry cuz its not my daily driver but when it hits its scary. The first time it happen I just took it to 4wheelers and they fixed it, but now since I lifted the junk a lil higher im facing this monster again.

I did replace my tie rod, but I also disassembled my whole steering when I squeezed in the spacers. I currently dont have my stabalizer on, but I truly dont feel thats the issue.. What else can I check?

Same thing as Alan. Make sure your trac bar is tight at both the frame and the axle. Are you running with an adjustable trac bar or do you have the stock one moved over?

Death Wobble be HEALED! (Thank you little 6lb 9oz baby Jesus...).

Today I went bolt by bolt through the front end. tight. tight. tight. tight... um stripped? I was so focused on everything axle side, didn't even spend time frame side. The top two bolts were stripped and lose as a goose. There was a quarter inch GAP between the top of the mounting plate and the frame (picture it "L" shaped... the bottoms were good, but at the top of the "L" going up the frame was the quarter inch gap and stripped bolts.)

Quick trip to Ace Hardware for some grade 8's, little sweat under the front end... HEALED. No death wobble, steering is tight, my baby is back.

Thank you Jack, Bob, Geoff, Mike, Paul, Chris, Baby Jesus, crazy bolt lady at Ace, and whoever else I missed.

Man it feels nice to drive and not pucker every time I hit a bump. :)=)

side note: moved the tire back to rear swing away and off the roof rack, took off the Gerry cans, and re-attached the sway bar just to shake it up a bit! Man I'm happy... the death wobble thing should be call "mess yo pants and pucker up death wobble" (MYPAPUDW for short...)

What side of town are you on? Goeff is in Texas this weekend, but we've got plenty of East Side and West Siders if you want someone to take a peak at it with you... Just give a shout.
