I just really miss my home town... <sigh>
From today's paper:
Cleburne County, Ark. — Want to buy drugs? Try Dial-a-Dealer! Act now, detectives are standing by.
“Hello?”
“I want to trade some green for some green.”
“Okay, where do you want to meet?”
This scenario played out for Detective John Ed Hendricks Wednesday evening when someone looking to buy marijuana dialed his cell number by accident. “John Ed was at the White County Jail with a suspect from an arrest earlier when a call from a number he didn’t know rang into his phone,” said Jack Smith, Cleburne County Narcotics officer. “When he answered, the man on the other end said he was given his number by a friend and he wanted to trade some green for some green.”
Hendricks knew this meant trade some marijuana for cash. “He was able to get a vehicle description and the location to meet the buyer.”
Since Hendricks was still in Searcy, Smith drove to the West Pangburn Grocery to meet the subject. “I was just going to talk to him, but when I ran his name to check for warrants, he had a $10,000 breaking and/or entering felony warrant for his arrest.”
Brandon Heath Delancey, 32, of Heber Springs was arrested. “He said he didn’t know what we were talking about when asked about the drugs.”
Delancey’s wife was asked to come to the scene to pick up the vehicle and a dog that he had with him. “She was afraid she would get arrested, so she asked her uncle to go for her. When he showed up I ran him and he had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest for non-payment of fines so he was taken into custody.”
The wife eventually picked up the dog, and was not arrested.
On a side note: no I'm not related to any of these folks, but I did used to baby sit the guy who's now a DETECTIVE when he was a kid. Scary stuff.
