Louisiana weekend trip (no Jeeps)
#1
Whew. Married off my mother, my sister, and my brother all in one year.
The brother's was last wknd and Dana, Jonathan, and I flew back for it. We flew into Houston at midnight Thurs, left in the rental at 1:10am and pulled up to the gate at my grandfather's farm at 5:30am. He had died when when I was 13 but I used to go up there all the time, sometimes for the summer. It's still in the family but estranged. Unfortunately it had poured since we had left Houston, so I just laid up in the barn in the hay until I finally had a 30min window to explore and snap some pics. It was all as I had remembered it, the old bunk house, the newer house, barn, pond, cows, etc. Dana and I wandered around for about an hour then we all went across the road to my aunt and uncles spread for a great southern lunch.
After that we went further south to my mother's friend's house on the old river. It got cut off years ago and is now a lake. The homes in the area are great. You've got lots of plantations, plenty of dilapitaded shacks (still occupied) and houses like hers where it's a new house built into the old style. It's right on the water, lillypads and all.
We traveled back and forth into town for the rehersal and wedding.
It was a pretty good wedding (fried catfish was of course on plate at the reception).
Anyway went great. Plenty of green, not enought time to explore, etc.
It's getting late so I may have some more pics to post later. For now enjoy.

This first set is from the farm. Sky was ugly so I had to be creative.

Away from the farm now. Played with a little older look on this

You know I love me some night shots

Dawn breaking

I had to do the old frame and name on this one. Sorry ;)

Man I'm homesick.

Those are great, Mike. You have a gift, my friend. All of them were just awesome.

I could actually smell the different scenes you were describing... barn, the rain, the river that became a lake... they are all distinct. I miss wandering through "the field" and discoving places and things. An old barn. A beaver dam and little lake.

Very cool, you guys. Thanks for telling us about it and taking pics.
