SB1167 Needs our Help ASAP
#1
Most in the OHV community know by now that we have been trying to get legislation passed for over 6 years for a OHV sticker program. It has had a tough road, but looks like we have a great chance. Here are some highlights:

Cost is $20 - But would not longer be required to have the SLT permit so no increase to our current costs.
Will fund education on resonsible OHV
Create a fund so that trail and area maintenance can be performed
Fund new trails working with the land management
Funds for Law Enforcement to get yahoos removed/fined
Allow for signage of trails network and maps for OHV users
In addition getting this legislation passed will help us continue our relationship with neighboring states. Some of which are looking at discontinuing their discounted fees for recreating in their states.
This bill had all the players from Law Enforcement, Land Mangement Groups, Conservation groups, and OHV at the table to create this bill.

Please take the time to address your senator with a letter and encourage them to vote yes.

Information from the AZVJC site:

It's time to sharpen the old "pencil" again. Looks like we may have a floor vote this week in the Senate.
As before there are some very vocal Senators that will try and pressure other Supporting Senators of ours to jump ship.
We need to let them know that we want to see this important legislation pass and ask for there support.
Please send April 14 or no later than April 15 (tuesday).

I have three letters below.

One is to Senator LINDA GRAY. She has worked very hard for us since the beginning of the Session and allowed us to create the Strike All Bill SB1167 from one of her Bills introduced earlier.
Senator Linda Gray's letter is a THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK letter.

Second is a THANK YOU letter to Senate President Tim Bee. We appreciate his leadership as Senate President in giving our SB 1167 Bill a fair chance on the Senate Floor.

Third letter is to each of the Senators on the below list. Please , only send letters to the Senators on the list!
IF you don't have time to send an email to all , send to your district Senator please.

As before , you can fax a letter ( hand write if you want) or email letters.
Please change some of the letter or add something simple , like I am a parent with small kids that ride , we ask you to vote for this bill because it addresses trail safety ………..
Or I ride on the Tonto Forest and this Bill helps keep my trails open…………………
You get the picture! JUST keep it simple.

Yes this is the same bill that we have tried to get passed for about 6 years now. Each year a new evolution with changes happens and we get oh so close. Last year even thought the Sierra Club was at the table helping prepare it, at the last second they called their favorite Senators and asked for a no vote and said they were not involved.

This year we got their endorsement first so they can't pull that one again.

If you live Senator Gould's district you need to write and write often, remind him you are a voter, get your friends who live in the district to write, you neighbors, your family anyone. He is and has been against it and keeps missleading others that this is a tax, it is not, it is a user fee, big difference. You all might also want to start thining about finding a new candidate to represent you, I know I am searching for one for District 12 to replace Blendu.

Again this is extremely important to our sport, we need thousands of letters, anyone you know that supports or uses an OHV needs to write to their Senators immediately, this cannot wait.

Please copy Hackle@cox.net, or if you already sent yours please forward a copy of what you sent.

Thanks to all who have supported this letter writing campaign.

If you live in District 3, please contact Senator Gould ASAP. He resonded to my email with a single word, Filibuster.

Please talk with him about the benefits of this bill and our desire as OHV to pay for the program. We need to appeal to him and find a way to get this passed.

It is not too late, but we are way behind our normal numbers in regards to the number of letters of support we generate. This bill is huge, if it does not pass it will have a massive negative affect on OHV use and areas in Arizona. Please take the time to write letters of support and help us preserve what he have and the future of those areas.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

It's taken us 3 years to get this legislation thru, but barring any unforseen events we will have our OHV Sticker in AZ. :)=):)=)
