New Bumper for the Tacoma
#1
Guys,

I am considering having Daryl build me a set of bumpers.

He sent me some pictures of a couple bumpers that look good.

My concern is the bolted on D-rings.

Anybody else have a fear that they may not hold when needed or am I just paranoid?

I added the picture in case you aren't sure what I am talking about.....

i havent seen those bolted on before, kind of interesting. What grade bolts is he using? Id imagine if they are grade 8 they would be just as strong as a weld. The only downside I can think of is the bolt heads have a chance of being sheared off on a rock being exposed out front like that.

Did he say why he chose to bolt them on instead of welding?

one other comment on that bumper, I like the overall design, but see if he can reinforce the sides where it bends around the front fender. Ive seen bumpers like that before bending at that spot and pushing into the fender and hood

no, I haven't asked yet. I thought i would ask around first to see if my concerns were valid. I will shoot him an email.

Nate, are you getting the bolt on D-rings?

He uses the 2X5 boxed steel ... .120 wall. I thought that would be all right because it is boxed.... thoughts?

I am having him add a plate in the middle to protect the bottom of the radiator....

No they are welded on.

Same as what I have.. however I did add 1/8" plate to the back side when I bolted it on to add more surface area around the bolts.

Ive also ran my bumper aginst the rocks / water fall several times, yes tore open 1 weld on the side but over all the bumper is quite in tact with scars :)g)

Thanks for the feedback.

I emailed him and he said he does weld through ones for $25/each. I think I will do that.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.
