I went up after work Saturday and got there as the sun was setting. Did the fire, roasting, camping thing then hiked the trail on Sunday. I'd never been there so I didn't know what to expect plus I was there mostly for pics so I parked the X and opted for the feets. The creek goes all the way to the Verde so that was my goal. I always find it best to not find out ahead of time how long of a hike it is so that way I can't wuss out, eyes on the goal, that sort of thing. Never said it's a smart plan but whatever. Turned out to be about a 8 mile round trip but worth it no matter what my legs will tell you today.
Anyway, I'd say the trail to Jeeps is like Sunflower with out the changes in alt. Sometimes you're on a dirt road in a tunnel of trees and sometimes you're in the creek with whatever it happens to offer rockwise.
At the first part of the trail I found a hobbit-like path that weaved though the trees on the creek bank. I took that while I could, then dropped back into the river rock and reeds.
Along the trail I was having too much fun photoging all the spooky black velvet ash trees I almost missed Sasquatch's house. I was going to poop in a bag and yell "Ding Dong!" at his door but it looked like some hunters may have died of exposure b/c there were a bunch of bones and clothes in there.
The desert was still freakin me out to b/c of all the colored "grass?" out there and there were flowers out.
At the verde I checked out a secluded air strip on the top of the hill I had listed on my topo. Pretty cool view and set up. Apparently they land on the dirt strip quite often. I found a picnic area, horseshoe court, and a log book that looked like I had just missed a flight. One plane almost did land but veered off. Shame, woulda been a cool pic.
So let's pic a date say in April while it's still "green?" and not to hot out.
Sure would be nice to have some Jeeps in these pics ;)
