So last night our Jeep started running really rough. The engine knocks, and it's the worst when idling.
This morning I noticed a lot more oil on the driveway than usual, there was oil all over the place so we took her to the shop. They had no clue what was wrong or where the leak was but they found an inch deep of oil in the airfilter.
Their suggestion was to give a few day's a see if the oil continues to leak and maybe then they can find the leak. Otherwise the engine gaskets might be shot, which means engine rebuild......

Anyone know what could cause oil to get into the air filter? Thoughts/Ideas? The shop said they'd never seen anything like it........

with oil in the air filter my guess would be head gasket or piston rings.

Wow... Ummmm yeah... Im not sure what to tell you on that. It sounds like blow-by... But that is a lot of oil!

I'm not on the VJC or wrangler forum, but I was able to find some other information online. We'll see if it's usefull.
We are going to take her to a real mechanic this week so we'll see what he has to say.

Piston Rings. Gonna need a new engine.
We'll probably just get a new Jeep.

Sorry to hear bout your Jeep. Jonathan found one on craigslist... don't know the mileage or engine size, but it's got lots o' goodies including long arm lift and air lockers. Have a look-see

Its a 4.0 and well used. I have wheeled with it a few times. Its built.
