My wife is doing the 3 day walk in November and we are putting together a meet and greet and white tanks run on april 26th. everyone will meet at our house (which is close to the air down spot) for breakfast then the run and a BBQ after the run. we will supply the breakfast and BBQ for donations. we are working on getting a kids bouncy thingy, an RTI ramp and will set up a couple of horse shoe pits. below is a bit of history why my wife got involved. Anyone who wants to join our team is welcome. e-mail my wife at
dhovland1@cox.net for more info. i have posted this on a couple of other clubs that i belong to, we are hoping for a good turnout.
My husband works for the goodyear fire dept and one morning about 3 and a
half years ago he called me after getting to work and told me that the
wife of one of his fellow firefighters had been dignosed with stage three breast cancer. i knew her, but not really well, just enough to know that she was only 26 years old and i immediately signed up and started this team that morning... i believe it was in july so i only had a few months to train and fundraise. we walked that year with four members. the following year we had around twelve members, we have a sister team called Las Bombas because we didnt all walk last year so those that did walked on that team. Jamie has been in remmission and cancer free for just under one year now. My mother had a complete mastectomy after many lumpectomies, and my husbands cousin has fought and won her battle with breast cancer. she calls me her hero, i call her mine... right now we have 5 members, with about five more on the fence. with all that said, after our last walk in 2006 four of us went and got pink ribbons tattooed on the top of our feet, so i share that tattoo with my best friend, her daughter and my youngest daughter... it means that much to me... hopefully this explains how dedicated i am to this fight,
cherie
