Clutch Leak / Fuse Panel
#1
Hey everyone, I am sending out this question to get some advise / help from some of you. Okay we talked about how my jeep was having a intermitten lose of power problem last month. I have found that my clutch is leaking fluid up by where it comes or goes thru the firewall into the engine compartment and is leaking onto my fuse panel. Now my first question, could this be the cause or root of my problem with the lose of power since I was told it would be a electrical problem..Would the fluid cause my panel to short out sometimes, cause I have found that once I wipe fluid from a round the panel it seems like the jeep runs better..So my other question is how hard is it to fix this clutch fluid leak and would I need to replace the whole fuse panel or clean it and reinstall new fuses? Please advise, send me a PM or call me at 602-763-0369. I thank you for all your time and wish you all a great weekend..GO GIANTS

Sounds like you found the problem.
From an electrical stand point a short caused by the fluid would cause power issues. The reason it's intermitant is probably because the clutch fluid makes a poor conductor. It would seem that the fuse panel and fuses are still good but just need to be cleaned.
And of course you have to fix the leak.

How hard is it or would it be to change out the clutch and clutch master cylinder do you think? Thank you for helping with your advise. I will get this fix ASAP so I can get out and do a run finally. But if its not one thing its another.

I wouldnt say I have a loss of power... my XJ is just plan tired & not geared properly.
How ever I did have a problem with my clutch master cylender and it killed all my fuses (oil ate up the plastic)
Changed mine out in about 1-2hr my old one was plastic, I bit the bullet & bought the metal one as its closer to OEM.

Thanks ScOOby, will that one work for a 86 XJ?

Oh didnt know yours was a 86.
that part I linked was for a 93.

Try this one?

See if any of these may work, but if your curent one is plastic I would strongly suggest to replace it with the metal one.

I have one of these metal ones all ready installed. I wonder if it is just a bad one from the manufacturer. At least it won't cost much to pick up another and see what happens. Thanks for your help, and hope the weekend was good to you.

think theres a seal in there that goes bad, I know theres no core charge so my guess would be its not service-able.

Alan, nice cherokee, I also like the pics that you had taken at judgement day. Once I can get this problem fixed I look forward to meeting another XJ owner. Have a great week
