Exhaust Oders From Rear Of Jeep
#1
I Have A 1977 Cj-5 With Dual Exhaust Straight Out The Rear Of My Jeep. (350 Chevy)
I Get A Lot Of Exhaust Odors When Going Slow. Can Someone Give Me Some Thoughts Of Where The Exhaust Should Exit The Jeep?
#1 Exit Straight Out The Back.
#2 Exit From The Sides, In Front Of The Rear Tires.
#3 Exit From The Sides, In Back Of The Rear Tires.

Thanx

On my '76 GMC with my 350, I had the dual out the back. At the exit, they had a tilt in them that directed the exhaust more downward.

I'm guessin the CJ won't see many rock obstacles? Seems like behind the tire out the side would be a little safer from damage. Plus it'd be harder to burn yourself on or get fumes in when you have the windows down/doors off.

Sure no leaks?

From What I Have Read, Having The Top, Doors And Windows Off Creates A Vacuum At The Rear Of The Jeep.
I Would Think Having A Turned Down Tip Would Cause The Exhaust Gas To Stay Longer At The Rear, Instead Of Being Pushed Out Word.
I Don't Understand Your Comment About My Cj Not Going To See Many Rocks With The Exhaust Out The Rear.
I Do Like Your Idea Of Putting The Exhaust Out The Side, Behind The Tires. I Plan On Installing Some New Mufflers (flowmaster 44) And Tips. I Just Didn't Know If It Would Be Better To Exit In Front Of The Rear Tires Or Behind The Rear Tires.

I meant out the side in the front of the tire seems like it would make it vulnerable (from my experience) as rocks seem to find that area. Especially on waterfall/ledge type scenarios.

Didn't know about the vacuum back, but it makes sense. Seems like the wind is always coming from behind when the top's off.

Most people who have the pipe out the side or out the back don't wheel their rigs. If the Jeep spends any time on the rocks the exhaust pipe being exsposed like that = smashed tail pipe.

If You Don't Exit The Rear Or The Side, Where Do You Exit The Pipes, If You Want To Go Off Road?

To the back, tucked, and facing down

I have mine going out the back but it stops under the tub and did point down before I cut it off.
