Occasional Loss of Power
#1
Good morning and hope the New Year is off to a great start for everyone. I have a tech question/concern about my Jeep. Its a 86 Cherokee. Here is what is happening and what I have all ready had taken care of. I have spent close to $500.00 all ready to still have the same problem. I can start the rig with no problems, now sometimes when I apply the gas pedal the motor seems to loose power but not die, other times I have no problems at all and she runs great. So what I am also encountering with this is while driving shifting from 1-2 and sometimes 3 once I let go to apply gas and take my foot off the clutch its like it looses power but does not die on me, then picks up power and then put put then works okay. I park the jeep and go to start it back up and it seems to work fine. Now here is what I have done.

New Plugs
New Wires
New Distributor and rotor
New Fuel Filter
New TPI Sensor
Tuneup all around

So I was told by the mechanic that he is lost for words and thinks it could be a electric problem, but I have no problems with my electric anywheres on the jeep to even think about what it could be.. Please help me with this problem so I can get it fixed and running. I can say it does run great with all the work so far but the loose of power is stopping me from going out and enjoying the mountains. I appreciate any help I can receive and wish everyone a great week.

almost sounds like a problem with a fuel injector not spraying enough or too much fuel into the engine

what mechanic did you go to?

Reminds me of my carbeurator.
I honestly don't know.

I took it to a place called Gruelich's located on 32nd Street and Bell. They told me that the fuel injectors were okay but I do need a cleaning. Wonder if I should pickup some of the Injector cleaner and see if that works. I was also going to change out the ICM and the EFG sensors. Thanks

They should be able to do a fuel pressure test on each injector, they can verify if they are spraying enough gas or not. On my dads 89gmc he had a simmilar problem to what you are describing and that was the cause

Chris I thank you for that information, I will try that and see..They told me that they tested everything but I don't feel like they are being to honest about it. I will let you know how this turns out.

Michael thanks for your info. Chris mentioned maybe fuel injectors so I am going to take it to someone else and get their opinion. Any place that can be recommended would be great.
