4th of July care package
July 2, 2008
About twice a year we like to sponsor the Men and Women serving in our military. This summer we are sponsoring a unit in Afghanistan. Below is a note from Christopher W Adcox with the US Army inside Afghanistan. They are just starting their 12 month tour and are expected to leave April of 2009
21 Jun 2008:
I represent a small mixed unit of airmen, soldiers, sailors, and marines in Afghanistan. We come from West Virginia, Alaska, New York, and Arizona.
Our living conditions are fairly good with all things considered. We have electricity (mostly 220), live in containers, and eat in tents. Because of the redundancy of the food in the chow hall my soldiers would like snacks and some food. We do have a refrigerator but we tend to keep it stocked with water. We have a nonfunctional microwave and a pot which we use to make hot water.
Our female marine is always looking for lotion to keep her skin from drying out. We also run out of coffee continuously, and considering the late nights and early mornings that we work it’s what helps keep us going.
For my soldiers that leave the wire and go out in town, often they like to take candy and treats to snack on or to give to the local children. I’m sure they would love to give locals crayons, coloring books, chalk or small toys like frisbees or balls.
Honestly, anything sent would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you all for your time and your support.
God bless.
Chris
